wanna know the truth?

Society sold us a bunch of really crappy lies. (Shocker, right? 🙃) Obviously we’re sold lies about way more than just animals— but in their case, the lies we are sold condition us to believe that certain species of animals are worthy of companionship, safety, and love— and others, deemed unworthy of these protections, are sent to slaughterhouses (…including the lucky few who get to live their short lives in better conditions than most before they are killed.)

Social psychologist and author Melanie Joy, who created the term “carnism,” writes in her seminal book, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows:

“‘It's just the way things are.’ Take a moment to consider this statement. Really think about it. We send one species to the butcher and give our love and kindness to another apparently for no reason other than because it's the way things are. When our attitudes and behaviors towards animals are so inconsistent, and this inconsistency is so unexamined, we can safely say we have been fed absurdities. It is absurd that we eat pigs and love dogs and don't even know why.”

If you’ve read this far, I have a hunch that you are open to waking up to the truth rather than continuing to live your life by this societal conditioning, even though (to borrow from Al Gore) it’s a pretty damn inconvenient truth alright.

A word of advice: Don’t worry about having to have it all figured out right away. Even the courage to read this and let it sink in is a huge first step. Everyone’s journey with this de-conditioning is different!

Are you ready to learn more about what your next step might be?

“Living my life in alignment with my love for animals is the best decision I’ve ever made. I don’t feel like I’ve ‘given up’ anything— I’ve gained so much and I just do things a little differently.”
